CBRXX Honda Superblackbird - gunked up carbs?
Hi,
I have a Blackbird that gets blocked carbs due to sitting over the winter & unleaded fuel - is there a simple fix for clearing the carbs or is it a strip down ??
It's a chore.
Proper storage will solve future issues.
Fuel treatment will help.
I'd pull the pack off and remove bowls, have custom tools to get slow speed jets out.
Not having the proper jet tools will damage the only way to get them out.
These jets are always the culprit being they have micro air bleed holes to mix the fuel and air.
You need super clean zone, large white nylon food cutting board to keep damage low
and easy to see small parts.
A small air compressor is a must to jet blast out the ports.
A soaking solution for the jets, a fine brass brush for general scrubbing.
You might need micro drills to be used by hand to clear out the micro holes clean that
are drilled in across the jet.
It might not hurt to order one ahead of time to have as a sample so you see up front
what it looks like new.
They can be hidden by rubber plug in base of carb body.
The tools I used were custom made by myself to fit perfect in the slot of jet.
The slightest slop fit of tool will shear off portions of the slot making it more difficult.
Dremel comes in handy here.
I would also suggest having a heat gun prior to trying to removing them.
Heating the aluminum in that zone will let the aluminum expand slightly to ease out the jet.
It is threaded in deep bore along side of main jet.
With spray tubes on carb cleaner, force jet stream of cleaner through all ports
followed up with blast of air to remove hidden gunk.
Main jets are never a problem being the holes are large.
Make sure work zone is well lighted.
It should be easy to find break down files on PDF of the carb.
If you do not tear down the throttle links, you won't have to sync them later.
I would refrain from tearing that section apart anyway.
But do inspect travel of all slides or butterflies.
Reach finger in the bore and feel all movements to be sure they move freely.
Floats are usually not an issue, but the seats might need inspection.
If your careful, floats should not have to be adjusted.
It's the work zone that needs critical attention so nothing escapes.
I recall the International bike show in Mpls when the Blackbird first appeared.
Quite the prize you have.
